What is the nature of this issue and how can it be solved?

The issue is that full spectrum has become a buzzword, and it should not have.

The full spectrum concept dates back to Mechoulam research and its work on the Entourage effect, i.e. the combined effect of the various types of cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids on the Endocannabinoid System.

One thing that is always neglected, usually for marketing purposes, is that a real full spectrum is such only when you have, well, the full spectrum of cannabinoids inside an extract, which means THC too.

Of course that is a no-no in the hemp industry, as THC, over 0.2% concentrations, is illegal in the EU.

What to do then?

You can still get an almost full spectrum without THC, by including well-researched Cannabinoids and terpenes. This will warrant an optimal entourage effect.

Cannabigerol (CBG)

This phytocannabinoid binds to both CB1 and CB2 receptors, enhancing the function of anandamide, an endocannabinoid neurotransmitter crucial in the regulation of pleasure, motivation, appetite, and pain. 

It has antibacterial, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties and can be useful in relieving both neuropathic and inflammatory pain, but more and more research is showing its usefulness in preventing and combating numerous issues, such as Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD), glaucoma, Huntington’s disease, and even certain types of cancer.

Cannabinol (CBN)

A very interesting cannabinoid that binds exclusively to CB2 receptors. It has a molecular structure very similar to that of THC, this is because it originates at the final stage of the plant, through the maturation and oxidation of trichomes, resulting in the progressive degradation of THC into CBN. 

It turns out to be much more active and effective than its parent, about 25% more, with no psychoactive properties. Although the scientific literature on it is quite limited, its sedative properties, useful for sleep disorders, and the pain relief it brings, combined with CBD, in the treatment of muscle and joint pain are evident. 

Some studies have shown efficacy in delaying the onset of ALS, but further research is needed. 

Cannabichromene (CBC)

This cannabinoid, like THC and CBD, originates from CBGA. 

It lacks a psychoactive effect but is considered one of the cannabinoids with the most interesting therapeutic properties as it partly binds to CB1 receptors but much more effectively to other more peculiar receptors: the vanilloid receptor TRPV1 and the potential transient receptor ankyrin 1 (TRPA1), both of which are linked to pain perception

When these are stimulated by CBC, the production of natural endocannabinoids increases exponentially. The potential of CBC is yet to be discovered, but to date studies show its efficacy in preventing and fighting cancer (acting as an inhibitor of anandamide metabolism, which fights certain types of cancer in vitro and in vivo), in blocking pain and inflammation associated with collagen-induced osteoarthritis, in combating depression, acne, and especially in preventing neuronal degeneration. 

In fact, CBC has a positive effect on neural stem progenitor cells (NSPCs), an essential cell for healthy brain function. NSPCs become more viable in the presence of CBC, and this is promising because NSPCs include astroglial cells, the most important cells for maintaining brain homeostasis.  

Each cannabinoid has its own area of influence and benefits, to prevent or address certain issues. It follows that a synergistic action of several cannabinoids working simultaneously is definitely more effective and decisive. 

So, less CBD and more altcannabinoids! 

But, what about terpenes? 

Well, they are an integral part of the entourage effect as much as phytocannabinoids.

Why terpenes matter: CBDay Plus uniquely designed terpene profile

Choosing terpenes for one’s genetics means consciously orienting it toward certain properties and therapeutic qualities. Nowadays, terpenes have taken the center stage of Cannabis breeding and are finally getting the attention they deserve.

Each cannabis strain has its own terpene profile. 

CBDay Plus is designed for daily stress recovery. In order of percentages, the sativa hemp genetics from which it is extracted contain the following terpenes:

Beta caryophyllene

a very special terpene that can directly activate the CB2 receptor of the endocannabinoid system, thus acting as if it were a cannabinoid.

It features a unique structure since it contains a rare cyclobutene ring that is not found in any other cannabis terpene.

Beta-caryophyllene has potent anti-inflammatory properties, especially at the cerebral (reducing chemicals that cause oxidative stress associated with inflammation) and intestinal levels.

In addition, it can reduce inflammation related to multiple sclerosis and immune system dysfunction, can help reduce pain related to the nervous system, and provide topical pain relief in creams and unguents because it acts as a local anesthetic. It can release the same endorphins as morphine without being addictive. 

The interaction of CBD and Beta Caryophyllene may be a potential additional treatment for substance abuse/dependence. Humulene and Beta Caryophyllene interaction, on the other hand, may have anti-inflammatory properties that make it practical for the treatment of arthritis, bursitis, and fibromyalgia.

Nerolidol

When combined with cannabis, the aroma and properties of nerolidol can produce a calming effect, and Blue Dream and GG4 are two cannabis strains that exhibit this effect.

It has antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anxiolytic and antioxidant properties, but the most important function is calming-sedative. The most scientifically known effect is that it improves skin absorption without irritating the skin, making it a powerful ally for taking certain medications, also being one of the few nontoxic and extremely functional alternatives.

Recent tests have shown that it can positively affect brain activity, through an anxiolytic effect and a neuroprotective effect against oxidative stress on neurons. Finally, lately, it is much considered for its anti-parasitic properties, inhibiting their growth, and especially for its antimalarial action.

Alpha Humulene

A very effective terpene commonly used in ancient Chinese and Asian medicine. It is often found in b-caryophyllene-rich genetics. With the latter, in fact, it shares the chemical formula while differing in structure. 

Recent studies hint at its strong antitumor action, as, combined with other phytocannabinoids, it inhibits cancer cells. This is due to its ability to produce Reactive Oxygen Species, leading to an antineoplastic effect that induces apoptosis. In high dosages and in the presence of chronic inflammation, however, it can cause an increase in tumor growth.

Other studies demonstrate its antibacterial properties, mainly against Staphylococcus aureus when administered in low dosages, and analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, both systemic and topical. 

Alpha Humulene plays an important role in pharmacokinetics, as it is showing potential in rapid distribution throughout the body, both orally and topically. 

Finally, it exhibits hunger-suppressing action, which is useful in the treatment of some eating disorders.

Bisabolol

Not your typical cannabis terpene, it is considered the terpene of chamomile, since the latter’s flowers are loaded with it.

Recently it has attracted much attention for its bactericidal and fungicidal action, both in cosmetics and foods and as a component of antifungal products.

It also antagonizes oxidative stress caused by the fungus Candida albicans and is effective against some liver and spleen bacteria. 

Research has focused heavily on its response to inflammatory action, especially of the skin, endogenous or caused by external elements or substances. Also in the inflammatory field, it is used with positive results as an analgesic.

Anti-ulcer and gastroprotective properties have also been demonstrated, as it has the ability to protect the gastric lining from ethanol-induced ulcers. In addition to its antioxidant action, like almost all terpenes, bisabolol promotes apoptosis of leukemic cells, going directly to damage the mitochondrial integrity of dysfunctional cells, causing their death. 

Although it turns out to have anxiolytic properties and to be effective against neuropathic pain, the most important properties are gastroprotective and anti-inflammatory, especially cutaneous.

Coming full circle: CBDay Plus’ effects, the power of an actual full spectrum extract

First, it should be noted that each endocannabinoid system is different and each responds to phytocannabinoids and terpenes in different ways and with varying degrees of intensity.

That said, the composition of CBDay plus allows for the intake of a perfectly balanced product that brings the consumer a wide range of effects and a thorough therapeutic experience. 

However, most of the effects will be initially non-obvious, as all the preventive properties act in silence by rebalancing our system from within.

Certainly the predominant and most noticeable effect is the sedative-calmative one, but it depends a lot on the amount taken and especially the concentration of CBDay plus: 5%-10%-15%.

Each one caters to a different consumer and reacts with different intensity with her endocannabinoid system.

CBDay Plus 5% is recommended for consumers less accustomed to taking CBD and cannabinoids in general. The therapeutic efficacy is much more relevant, with similar effects to 5% but with much stronger sedative potency, unless the consumer has a lot of tolerance and needs higher dosages. CBDay Plus 15% on the other hand, is for more accustomed users with previous experience in CBD and cannabinoid consumption.
